Smoothing out the pull on an 870 trigger... HOW?

I just got the LAST Alloy trigger plate assembly in stock at Remington. All new ones will be Ploymer. The pull seems to have a stage in it. IE: You pull the trigger and it kind of jerks to a stop, pull through that and it fires. How would one fix that? Where might the problem be?

Thanks,

Ben

A little examination of the disassembled trigger group will show how things go together, I suspect there's a burr on the sear or trigger causing that second stage feel.

But, I suggest you place the piece in the hands of a competent smith and let him or her tweak it. Triggers, like brakes on cars, and not to be messed with by the less than competent.

Personally, I wouldn't be too concerned about the 870 trigger, and would probably just leave it be. As the gun is fired the trigger may improve sufficiently without any additional effort. Sometimes a good lube helps, too. JMHO.
