Greetings to all! I took my kids to the range today and let them shoot my .380 and .22. My son (12) enjoyed it but my daughter (11) doesn't like the smell of gunpowder. Any help would be appreciated.

I suppose it is an indoor range.
Is the ventilation any good ?
Try to shoot the lead-free , non toxic ammo from Winchester , Fiocchi and others.
Hope this can help and enjoy the shooting sport ;)

Some powders are more 'pleasant' than others.

Never give up; your (and my) kids are our future.

I love the smell of cordite in the morning. I think the smell of cordite is actually pleasant. I guess it's something you have to get used to.

I remember as a kid that the Cordite burned by nostrils. It's a very acrid smell that you need to get used to. In all seriousness, if she chews some gum or sucks on some candy while shooting it may help. (Just don't let her choke on it)

Gawd how I love the smell. I also love the smell of blackpowder. If your daughter doesn't like the smell, have her try some pyrodex. That smells like dirty socks. Yuck!

About the only thing I can think of is better ventilation or finding an outdoor range where the wind picks up.

Hi Vega!

It is the reverse, my 14 yrs daughter like to smell my .45 muzzle after the firing.

You give me idea for the .22 for ages like that. I think the .45 has too much recoil for my daugther to practice.

My little boy is still 8 yrs old so I cannot let him shoot yet with real gun.

One solution for the smell, have them spray with strong perfumes.

Thanks

When I was young, I used to carry around a spent bottle rocket just so I could smell it, I liked the smell so much! I still love that smell, but the bottle rocket eventually fell apart ;)
