I posted this over on the Enfield forum, too, but I wanna touch base with as many knowlegeable shooters as I can. My '96 Swedish Mauser, 1911 Swiss Schmidt Rubin, 1903A1 Springfield, and Dutch Mannlicher Cavalry Carbine all print a good bit higher than their point of aim at 100 yards, which is as it should be considering their battle zeroes were out further, to the tune of 300 meters or more. Now, today, I take my No1MkIII* SMLE and my "new" No5Mk1 Jungle Carbine out with both some 180gr and 123gr handloads, and try to get them sighted in. My Goodness! (That was for the concussion and
report of the Jungle Carbine, according to the folks on either side of the bench, something about fillings rattling in their jaws) The SMLE prints quite low at 100 yards, I had to move the rear sight ramp to the 300 meter setting to get it to print at the point of aim. The Jungle Carbine shot even lower than the SMLE, I had to bring the target back to 25 yards to see where she put them. A NRA 50-yard bullseye needed a 12 o'clock hold, very top of the circle, to print in the X at 25 yards. Surprisingly, both my 180gr loads and 123gr loads printed to the same place, in both guns. I can set the Singer sight on the Jungle Carbine up to offset this drop, but something ain't quite kosher. Wonder if I have bent barrels, or tall front blades, or my handloads aren't up to poop? I chronographed the 180gr handloads, (Remington 180gr RNSP, 40.0gr IMR4895, new Winchester brass) and they were right where the load data said they should be, right around 2250fps. What gives?
