What is going on with smith&wesson?
I have a new 640 j ,and the grips came apart.s&w costomer service will not
answer the phone,whats up with that? I have called 9 times,nothing
 
I know they either are still on there summer shut down they do every here or are just getting back from it.I mailed them an MP for repair 2 weeks ago and have yet to hear anything.But I do know this is around the time of year they close down for 2 weeks.I'd give them another week...There usually great.
 
An old tradition in New England manufacturing plants is that they just close up for two weeks in August and everyone takes a vacation. They will be back, so try again in a week or so.

Meantime, maybe someone else can help. Can you post pictures of the grips so we can see what happened?

It is advisable to take anything on that site with a salt block, as a grain of salt is nowhere near big enough. Also note that the article (rant) is 13 years old, and mostly outdated.

How exactly did the grips come apart? If the problem is just the grip itself and not any part of the gun, then you should be able to get a set of round-butt J-Frame grips easily and inexpensively from a number of sources if you don't want to wait on S&W.
