Here is my story: I bought a S&W 642-2 from a friend recently with acrimson trace laser grip for really cheap it was used and had wear marks from use that had been caused by my friend carrying it. He had bought it in 2007 and used it religiously, but what I noticed when I bought it was that it had some little imperfections on the frame that looked to be from a "bad finish job". When I took the grip off it looked as if the finish had just fallen off.
So I got on S&W site sent them an email describing the problem they sent me in an email some free postage I sent the gun off on June 17, 2011.
I recieved an update on June 26, 2011 saying they had recieved it and I was given a work order number.
On June 30, 2011 I recieved my gun back With a letter stating that they had replaced the frame entirely with a brand new one! and not only that be I noticed the one I sent off had wear on the cylinder and barrel from cc use, the new one did not so either the touched it up or fromthe best I can tell they replaced them too! Never one time did I speak to a customer service rep.
I Love S&W I have no intention of buying anything other than from them, they have made a lifelong customer out of me. This is why they IMHO have become one of the top gun manufacturers in the business. I just cant say enough good things about them.
Needless to say I would advise anybody to get a S&W
