Smith & Wesson screwed by its own "sell out" deal again

Oh well, they made their bed, now they get to sleep in it. Over on TAC, CEO Schultz said the Clinton-Gores couldn't or didn't have the power to suspend all these municipal lawsuits (this is a matter for debate). So what was S&W thinking? There must be private details in this agreement that we, the general public, will never be made aware of. Why else would they bargain with the devil?
 
When a business forgets its customers it will inevitably suffer. Ford said, "we can't afford another $4 for a bracket on the Pinto's gas tank." They suffered as people bought Toyotas and Hondas. Sony said, "Betamax is superior, so we will not license it to anyone else, and customers will buy at our prices." They suffered as people bought VHS. Coca-Cola said, "We will pull the world's most popular soft drink off the market." They suffered as people changed brands rather than drink "New Coke".

Smith and Wesson said, "We will ignore the deeply held convictions of our huge customer base, and cave in to meritless harassment suits because the cost of fighting might eat into our executive bonuses." They suffered as gun buyers dropped them to the bottom of the shopping list, or off it altogether.

What is the difference between S&W and those other companies? The other companies recognized their mistake and changed their ways. They are still alive because, better late than never, they realized that the customer makes them rich and people vote with their dollars.

My S&W Model 19 is a wonderful product. It's over 20 years old and still works as it should. There are other S&W products that interest me, but they will not get one nickel of my business. If S&W wants to stay alive, they must recant. They must abrogate the sellout agreement. Then they must work like a stevedore on overtime to win back their customers. If they don't they're toast. No customers means no sales means no profits means no company. That's Business 101.
 
Smith & Wesson must have been thinking of the good old days when they controlled 90% of the law enforcement market and chunk of the military market. I think they sold us out to get the LEO market back. :(
