I think from all the top gun makers, only Smith and Ruger (among very few other that I am not bothered with) are left who make revolvers and pistols for commercial use; and they come out with improved products.

Which of these two you think is doing a better job and producing better handguns? I know they both are great and you cannot go wrong with either, but just for the comparison sake.

Gosh

Not really an "Either-or" question for me. Comparing S&W to Ruger, even just using revolvers, is not very "apples to apples"

I have to sit on the fence on this one

I love Ruger, but mill marks and burrs all inside the guts are killing their quality. I voted S&W for their much better clockwork, but who can afford a $700 revolver?:mad::barf:

I have to say Ruger, because S&W is dead to me for revolvers until the lock is gone.

Frankly, I think both companies' automatics suck. I just don't like polymer pistols (SR9 and M&P), the S&W metal pistols have way too high a bore axis and the Ruger metal pistols (P series) are bulky like the michelin man designed them.

S&W has a 1911... I'd grudgingly get one of theirs if those were the only 2 companies I had to choose from.

But I'd choose a Ruger revolver first.

Well both have great revolvers, but i pick the S&W because they are way better in the field of bottom feeders. I also like their revolvers better, but that is my opinion.

Both are great manufacturers so I used the number of Ruger recalls as the tie breaker. It seems lately Ruger can't introduce a new product without one.

Depends on use. There are S&W revolvers I like for specific reasons.....mostly older ones.

However, no S&W revolver can take the heat that a Ruger can when it comes to taking care of outdoors business.

I really don't care for the auto-loaders that either companies make, although I could probably make exceptions for the S&W 1911 and the Ruger LCP.

As I was growing up in the 80's it was the Smith and Wessons I drooled over. It's still that way. I'll take a nice 1970's-80's vintage Smith and Wesson over any other revolvers. The guns of your youth are the ones that stick with you.

You have something against Colt??

I have nothing against Colt. In fact, I am a collector of their snake series. It is just that it seems like they have given up on the DAs and semi auto for consumers. Their focus is rather military products now.

Frankly, I think both companies' automatics suck.
I could not agree more.

If it wasn't for government contracts, none of these companies would be in business. Sure there are companies like Heritage and HiPoint who definitely have their niche market for those people that just gotta have a gun but don't have any money, but I would be willing to bet that retail sales for companies like S&W, Ruger and even our beloved Colt are pretty much an afterthought.

I still lust after the Colt 6 Round Single Action Army 357 Magnum, but I will most likely "settle" for a Ruger 357 Blackhawk instead for about $700 less!
