Smith & Wesson Magazine

A few years ago, a friend's husband died. The husband had a small collection of guns, which I helped her sell. Today, she found what appears to be a Smith & Wesson, 9mm, single stack, 10 round magazine. There are eight rounds in the magazine and it appears it could hold two more.

The only marking on the magazine is on the bottom where S & W is stamped. I attached a photo. Will someone identify which S&W pistol uses this magazine then give me a rough idea of the value. She wants to sell it.

I now have the picture; it looks like an 8-round magazine from a Model 39 or one of the variations. Anyway, S&W standard magazines generally sell for about $45 new, $20-25 used, retail. Any ammo is often discarded unless it is factory, since many folks won't take a chance on unknown reloads.

I don't know if this helps.

a 39 mag also fits X39 & 39XX S&W's,
39, 439, 539, 639, 909, 952, 3904, 3906, 3944, 3946...
along with a smattering of other pistols...
as many saved money by simply using S&W's mags
instead of designing their own...
Example, Star models 28 & 30 use 5906 (59xx series) mags that require no mods.
Star M45 uses 45xx series mags if you add a mag catch hole in the right spot.

See, it pays to be an old fart ;)

Looks to me to be for the 39 series of pistols. Pretty sure it will fit any single stack S&W 9mm, including the "Lady Smith" line.

Incorrect. The 3rd-generation full-size pistols—the Models 909, 952, 3904, and 3906—will NOT accept 8-round magazines from a 1st-generation Model 39 or 2nd-generation Model 439/539/639. The 3rd-gen grip frame is a smidge longer and the earlier mags will NOT lock in. I've tried it.

The earlier mags WILL function in the compact 908/908S/391x/395x—including the Ladysmiths—and the subcompact CS9 Chief's Special, but they will project from the grip frame.
