Smith & Wesson M66 2 1/2" or Ruger GP101 3"

they're both good, the S&W's finish as well as trigger are better IMHO. The Ruger is still a good value for the money though. Handle them both and make the choice.

Either one. I have the 3" sp and a Ruger 2.75" speed six (same size as the 2.5" 66). Usually the SP goes along because of the size and a little more comfortable. But if I could only have one it would be the 6 shooter.

I had a 2 1/2 " Model 66. It magicly transformed itself into a Browning High Power Practical (along with the addition of some greenbacks ;)).

Nasty little booger to shoot.

Recoil and muzzle blast were all out of proportion to the caliber. I found it to be worse than my 4" barreled Smith model 29 .44 Magnum in that respect. I was surprised somewhat because I have 2 4" Smith model 19's and a 6" barrel model 19 - the blued counterpart of the 66.

I think I'd opt for the extra 1/2 inch of barrel if I were to dive back into the sub-4" waters again.

I carry a Smith and Wesson model 66 2.5 inch. It came from Wilson Combat fully customized. It is amazingly accurate and a true pleasure to carry. It is balanced well and points great. I carry it in an El Paso Saddlery Street Combat open top holster. I'm sure either of the choices will serve you well.
