This looks like a blast. It would be the first AR in the family. A .223 would be a good addition for cyotes and fun for the range. Does anyone have an opinion on the "sport" version. As always anything would be helpful.

Thanks, Vermonter

Go buy it!

Love mine. I couldn't resist buying it for the price $599. When I bought it, I was not worried about not having a forward assist or dust cover or the barrel not being chrome lined. I just wanted a no frills AR to shoot iron sights with. And later if I chose, buy a different upper for it. What I got was a big surprise! It's reliable, without a single malfunction. It is very accurate (5R rifling, 1 in 8 twist). With iron sights, I can group 5 shots in 1.5 inches at 50 yards and stay within the 8 ring at 100 yards (about three inch group). I went with a couple of buddies to the range last weekend and one of them just bought one. It was his first AR. After helping him sight in and a few pointers, he was hitting a 16" square target at 260 yards with about 50% of his shots. Not bad for a beginner. Of course I had to show him up and hit it with all my shots, but then again I have been shooting a lot longer than him. :D

You will not be disappointed if you buy one.

first hand info

Gotta love first hand knowledge. Sounds like i can do better than the 660 i saw it for. Is it ammo pickey? How often do you clean etc. As an owner anything you can tell me would be helpful.
Thanks, Vermonter

When I shot is last weekend, I was using my reloads (Hornady 55 gr FMJ, CCI primer, Lake City brass with 27.4 gr of BLC2 powder) and my friend was using steel cased Tula ammo. Neither one had a hiccup. I clean mine almost everytime I go to the range (usually shoot about 200+ rounds). I've let it sit uncleaned a couple of times when I shot less than a hundred and on the next trip, it's on target. I also run it with minimal lube on the bolt, usually whatever I had put on there after cleaning.

I've also used Federal bulk ammo XM193 (55 gr FMJ) and XM855 (62 gr FMJ - green tip). It shoots those pretty good as well.

I have not shot mine with a scope so I'm not sure if it's a MOA shooter. Maybe one day, just to find out.

And oh, the stock handguard that comes with it, does not have a heat shield, so that can get pretty warm. I replaced mine with Magpul MOE. I've also changed the pistol grip to Hogue and the buttstock to Magpul MOE. Mostly cosmetic change to personalize it a little.

There is tons of information out about the sport model, just google it and look for discussion results.

I think its the best budget AR available. Its much better quality than any other $600-$650 AR.

It is missing the dust cover and the forward assist (which you really dont need at all)

The barrel is Melonite coated inside and has been tested as extremely durable

Oh and you dont need to clean ARs alot, just keep the bolt carrier group well oiled. Cleaning can be done every 1,000 rounds if you can wait that long, I usually clean every other range trip because I dont like dirty guns, but they can run dirty, they just need to be wet

positive vibes here eh?

When i searched elsewhere on the interwebs folks were o so negitive. I am going to try and get a good deal on one. I figure i should spend no more than 650

I like mine... that being said, if I were to do it again I would spend the extra time and money and build something that I really wanted.

Love mine, for the price you can't beat it. Imoa. have had and shot plently and it's very realiable, no issuse after hundreds of rounds.

For owners

1. How are the fixed sights?
2. Did you mount an optic and if so what kind.
3. What is it like to field carry? (I don't mean tactically but I would like to take it for yotes)
4. Ammo preference if any?

Again any information is helpful.

Kind Regards, Vermonter

1. They are standard sights. Nothing fancy, not match quality but works great.

2. no additional optics, for now

3. I have not used it for hunting, but it's fairly light as long as you don't add too much gear.

4. Federal bulk ammo works great and most of the other ammo I shoot are my reloads. Hornady V-max 55 gr seems to be the most accurate of my reloads.
