Smith & Wesson M-642 Gunsmithing/Sighting Blues

Hello Everyone,

I've been looking for a top drawer gunsmith who can do a premium action job on my alloy framed Smith & Wesson Model 642 Centennial and zero the sights for the FBI load (158-grain LSWCHP +P) at 25 yards.

I've talked with Karl Sokol and the Smith & Wesson factory. Both won't do it because of the softer allow frame can be damaged when the barrel is turned to adjust the point of impact.

Before any of you try to talk me out of this combination, I have an all steel Model 640 so customized and want the 642 to match, but the gunsmith that did the 640 has retired.

Does anyone know of a gunsmith who can do all of the above service without screwing the gun up?

i had a beautiful action tune on my 642 done by a local smith who has now moved to oregon www.dmcustomguns.com

dale (DM) has done a number of my carry/duty guns and understands what it takes to make it "sing". besides the having the action tuned, i had the trigger smoothed and rounded and the cylinder release beveled (it makes my thumb happy). i carry it with uncle mike's boot grips and thinking about changing to the hogue bantam grips

I too thought about the hogues....but be careful..theya re very tacky and everything, including shirt tales and cuffs...sticks to them...I stuck with the uncle mikes (and the brownell's hideout)

if you are so inclined and have the spare funds, you could get the craig segel (sp?) grips that the UM's are copied from. they come in very nice wood and are not tacky at all.
