Smith & Wesson K22 ID

Could one of the readers shed some light on a K22 I purchased. It is serial number 252xxx. It has a K about 1/2 inch in front of the serial number. The serial number on the bottom of the barrel matches the butt number. It has a 6 inch barrel and is in 22 caliber. Thankyou I do not have a pic at this time but could send one if it requires it. The Hammer is fairly wide and arched downward.

The K prefix means it is a K frame with adjustable sights made after WW II. Letters are a part of the serial. The 6" barrel makes it a K22 Masterpiece. When model numbers were assigned in 1957 this becomes the Model 17. The same revolver with a 4" barrel and ramp sight (the Masterpiece has a squared, Patridge front sight) is the 22 Combat Masterpiece or Model 18. These came standard with Magna stocks and the larger target style were also available.

Does it look like this? This has the early "Speed Hammer" as S&W called it (or "Fish Hook" hammer as most regular people call it) and yours sounds like it has the wider target hammer. Mine also wears period correct target stocks.
