Stock is on fire in the after hours. Record 4th Quarter earnings, record sales, record cash flow and record production. Pretty impressive.

Good for them! I guess folks that seem to hate them and not buy them are in the minority - hopefully, their shareholders will see a nice dividend

Just great. Another American company raping the customers with overpriced merchandise so the rich can feed their greed. Who's next, Ruger?:(

a7mmnut, there have been record gun sales reported for the last year or longer; it seems reasonable that the companies that manufacture those guns would be reporting record sales and commensurate profits. Profit allows more R&D, plant expansion, etc. If there was no profit in firearm manufacturing then there would be no firearm manufacturers. Would that be your preference?

If S&W does well good for them. Since they are a public company, the stockholders benefit. Any of us who so desires, can own a share in the company and share in the profits.

Why complain when you can invest?

I own a few share of S&W and watched them do well today. I don't own them to get rich, but in this day and age of political correctness, I thought it would be cool to own a small bit of the company.

The first gun I ever shot was a S&W and I still hold their revolvers in high regard. I would think all gun owners, even if you dont like S&W, would want to continue to see gun companies do well. The opposite of doing well is doing bad. If a company does bad long enough, they eventually cease doing business at all.

They didn't have the day S&W did, but their stock was up over 7% today. So, yes, looks like Ruger might be making money too. Damn you free market!

Well, I guess I've been completely wrong about my dear conservative friends here at TFL for years now. Being that my entire adult life has been devoted to my profession in the now superbly failing manufacturing industry, it just seems to me that anyone asking upwards of $900 for their original design has some problems with business ethics. Evidently the same goes for the petroleum industry and our posters (bashers) here on TFL? Some of you guys better check up on my profile before slamming me with Liberalism charges.

a7mmnut, how much profit does S&W make on each "original design" and, in your opinion, how much should be allowable?

Don, it doesn't matter anymore. The U.S. Government will see to that. It's just my opinion. If I can make a living for my family of four on what's left of our once-thriving company, I'm sure the execs can live with theirs--huge bonuses for all. You should read my posts on the machine shop forums!

Actually it would unethical for S&W management not to do their fiduciary duty and maximize profits for share holders.

I'm not trying to pick on you 7, but I am curious how selling a gun for $900 is unethical. Guns sales operate in essentially a free market and the astute buyer generally has several options from various makers and various models. The market will decide if a gun will survive at a certain price point. I'm just not sure how that is unethical.

I'm saddened that we can't have a simple thread that reads, "hey, Smith & Wesson stock is up. Isn't that nice?" without members sinking to politics and personal attacks on each other.
