Smith&Wesson firing pin?

Just bought a used S&W model 65. Brought it home and cleaned it and noticed that the firing pin kind of flops around on the hammer. No spring in the hammer or it is broken. Is this a problem?

Mike, this isn't a problem, the firing pin has to have some play on the old S&W hammer and firing pin. If It didn't then you would have a problem.

This is normal. Early S&W firing pins move freely, later ones have a spring to position the pin. Movement is necessary to allow the pin to swivel into alignment with the firing pin hole in the frame.
