I have an old smith & wesson 32 double action top break revolver, pretty sure its the target version sinse it has a target logo on one side of the handle, the seriel number is 124xxx and on the top of the barrel the last issue date is Jan. 5 82. can anyone tell me the year it was made and anything else about it?

Assuming it's a S&W revolver,
If it has an exposed hammer then it's a 32 Double Action 4th Model. SN's ran from 43406 in 1883 to 282999 in 1909.

If it has a concealed hammer and a grip safety then it's a 32 safety Hammerless 2nd Model. SN's ran from 91418 in 1902 to 170000 in 1909.

What is the logo you are referring to?

s&w 32

It is deffinatly a s&w, stamped on the top of the barrel is (smith & wesson springfield mass. pat'd jan. 24,65 july 11,65 aug. 24,69 reissue july 25,71 may. 11,80 jan. 3,82)..It's a top break with round but, on the left side grip it has the s&w logo and the rite grip has a square with what looks like a target with five holes in it the seriel nmbers are on the bottom of the handle and on the face of the cylinder when you open it, and it does have a visable hammer. the seriel numbers match and are 124xxx a six digit number. Hope this info can give you the info to tell me more about this revolver,,,,,,,, thanks gun lovers

Then what I said in post #2 above stands.
Your serial nunber dates it to pre 1899.
The "target" grip I can't explain as there is nothing stated about it in the SCSW.

All the grips of those top-breaks were similar, so it is possible that a set of H&R grips was put on an S&W and made to fit. Only good pictures would tell.

If it has fixed sights, it is NOT a target model.

I'm also not 100% sure, but I don't think that S&W made any of their breaktops with adjustable sights.

If the grips look like this, they are H&R grips and have nothing to do with an S&W other than that they've been stuck on your gun:

Thanks for the photo of the H&R grip Mike that helps, I guess that sometime in the life of the revolver that one of the grips was replaced with a h&r grip because one side has the old S&W logo and the other side looks just like the one in your photo,,,thanks again
