Smith & Weasel--clarifies its clarification, back in bed with Fed

Ok, all together now. On the count of three. One, two, three: "When posting links to news stories, also post the text of the story, because the link doesn't always remain valid."

------------------
"Anyone feel like saluting the flag which the strutting ATF and FBI gleefully raised over the smoldering crematorium of Waco, back in April of ‘93?" -Vin Suprynowicz

Posting links to stories is fine, but please post the stories that go along with them. I believe the TFL policy is to post the story, because links soon expire and the data is lost, like this is now.

Thanks,
Joe

Sorry. Link only worked yesterday. I'll type some of it

AP Springfield, Mass--Govt. officials and Smith & Wesson pledged Thursaday to work out differences over "clarifications" the gun maker posted on its web site concerning its landmark settlement with the Clinton administration.

The clarifications relate to a small portion of the agreement dealing with restrictions on gun show sales.

The company said a requirement that its dealers make background checks and impose other restrictions on sales applies only to the sale of the gunmaker's firearms.

Smith & Wesson also said criminal background checks it agreed to for gun show sales would apply only to firearms sold by licensed dealers and not used guns sold by private citizens.

. . . .

In a joint statement, the U.S. Treasury Dept., HUD and S&W said "the agreement is in full force."

. . . .

"Clearly, there will be questions that need interpretation as we go along, as this agreement is historic and without precedent," the statement says. "We will address those questions as they arise."

It went on to call suggestions the gun maker was reneging in any way "inaccurate and misleading."
