Smith M625

Help me out here. I've got an older Smith Model 625 Classic, in 45LC. Gun has a 5 inch barrel, full lug, drilled and tapped like 629 classic. Anyone have any knowledge of this revolver? Does it have any Oddity value to it? Had this one for at least 15 years, and suddenly older Smiths are getting hard to come by, I was wondering about this one.

Sounds like a 625-5 Classic.

1500 made in 1991. These don't show up all that often, and generally have a premium price. $500 --> $600 depending on condition and extras.

You've got a nice one. Enjoy it...

Thanks for the help. I have really enjoyed this pistol, althought it only been fired about 50 times. I normally shoot 'Blackhawk' level loads in 45, so this one only fires factory ammo to get empty brass. The 686 type full lug barrel has always shot good for me, and that was part of the reason I bought it. What has happened to Smiths Glory Days of limited runs of odd guns? Do they still do it, and I'm missing it, or have they stopped? Back in the 90's I know I bought a ton of odd balls, 10mm revolver, snub M629's and the rest of them. Was this due to Lew Horton, or a Smith deal?

Smith still does plenty of small runs of odd guns.

I'd watch out using any "Ruger Only" loads in your 625.

625 only creates empty brass off factory loads. I wish it was up to the strong stuff, but everything I was ever told was to limit it to factory ammo, (standard pressure). I do keep some warm 200gr XTP's in it for home defense, but it's fairly deep in the safe, so it will be one of the last I get to. I hate to admit it here in the revolver forum, but my XD 40 Compact, and it's little light have taken over the night stand.

The "gun a week" days are gone, but S&W still offers many short run models, mostly through their Performance Center.

AFAIK... the minimum order is still 300 guns (200 if you are a good customer), so the larger distributors like Lew Horton, RSR, etc still do exclusive runs.
