smith carbine

I am looking for some info on my smith carbine( i think) i am not a civil
war buff or have any knowledge on these types of guns. any info would be greatley appreciated
i was having trouble finding any site with serial number info the ser#9984
a possible value would be great. the bore is shinnier than most of my shotguns
it is in 90% comdition i think

I don't have a lot of detail, over 30,000 made 1861-1865 by three manufacturers for distributors Poultney & Trimble. Your American Machine Works gun is from one of the larger companies.
They were up to serial number 11,000 in August 1863 so yours is likely from early 1863.
Can't help with a value, the Smith is one of the more common and better preserved CW carbines out there.
