Smith and Wesson k22

Not Too Sure

But some one with better knowledge will be along soon I'm sure, of that.
If it is a K-22 Masterpiece then it will have been made prior to 1959. I know this because I have Model 17 that was made in '59 and the change from named to number model designation came in the mid late 50s.
Now for those who know more than I do.

Me too.

Serial # 79K0XXX. This K-22 was sold at Montgomery Ward in Alhambra, Ca.
probably about 20-25 years ago if the info the previous owner provided is correct. The barrel is pinned and the gun appears to have been fired very little. I paid $165 for it about 8 years ago. I haven't shot it very much but it does very well with almost all ammo except Russian made junk.
Anybody know year of manufacture?

k 22 from 1947 though the grips are a few years newer.

Hello
Forum Member Mec's 1947 Looks Like mine. There were some they called Transition pieces due to the larger Mushroom style extractor end they had to Notch out the under side of the barrel for the extractor to clear when closing the cylinder. S&W did not waste parts and these extractors were used on their pre-War revolvers. Mine is shown with it's correct serial numbered Grips. Regards, Hammer It

Here's a couple of mine: . .

This K-22 masterpiece is a four digit S/N 40xx. I'm guessing it's a 1946 to 1947 gun.

This one is a six digit S/N 2162xx. I'm guessing it around 1954 to 1956???

At a glance they look the same, but look close at the first one and you'll notice the mushroom ejector rod end and the one line . . "Made In USA"

Hello mlh1974
According to my Reference material your Gun falls into a 1967 Time frame. 1967-K-715997--K--779162. Regards, Hammer It

Wraco: Assuming both have a K prefix, gun one is from 1947 (K615-K18731).
Gun two is from 1954 (K210096 to K231255).

Hi
All Post-War K-Frame revolver's have a K-Prefix Before their Serial Number but many times it is forgotten when owners attempt to date them. The Revolver's made Prior to 1948 all Have a One Line address that reads "Made in The U.S.A." and all Post-1948 Revolvers have The Four Line address. The reason for the Mushroom Extractor being on his 1947 Revolver is that S&W wasted nothing along the way if it was not safety related they used up existing supplies before switching over to the new designed part's so that is why we See Pre-War Parts used in Early Post-War Production guns. The First Year Production of Post-War S&W revolvers Being 1947 started with K- 101 and ended with-K-614 so seeing one from that certain year is Usually Rare... Hammer It
