Smith and Wesson 686Plus

I went back out to the range today and this time I was firing the Smith and Wesson 4" 686 Plus. That is one incredible firearm to say the least. Every function from DA to SA was smooth as glass. At ten yards I was hitting the center of the target all the time.My buddy was shooting a CZ 75 Auto. He was doing fairly well, he tried the Smith. and he could not believe the accuracy of that firearm. If anyone has the opportunity to shoot one of these firearms do not miss the chance. You will be hooked. I just wanted to share with you all a good report on this firearm. I bought this firearm last year, and it was used but not abused. Hardly fired. It came from the Performance Center. I was looking for a Rugher Gp100 4" and the clerk said all he had was this Smith and Wesson 686 Plus used. He handed it to me, I held it and pulled the trigger Da and Sa. And that was it. I never handed it back to him. It was love at first sight. Anyhow, if you fellows get the chance go fire one, if you have one you are Blessed.

He just wanted the world to know he has a python I guess. I got my 686 before the plus came out but I still like it.

I've got three 686's (one is a "plus," 3" bbl), and a Python.

The Python trigger is definitely smoother. But the 686's feel much better in my hand.

I shoot two of my three 686's frequently. They are my favorite guns to shoot - hands down.

My 1964 nickel Python is probably better but I'm glad you like the Smith.

Most likely not...their triggers suck compared to S&W. Trust me, I know.

OP...by the way..great choice on your revolver!! What PC 686 model did you buy?? Post pics!!!!
This PC 686-4 "Light Hunter" is a python killer

Good catch Ed...

I have both the 3" and 6" 686 plus and found both to be extremely smooth and accurate. I have several other 357's; model 27's, mod 28, 386 Hunter, model 60, 19's, & 13 and all are fine weapons and the 686's are comparable to any of them. With that extra 7th round they have a slight edge on the six shooters. They are my favorite 357 range gun.

From the looks of the popularity of the 686 models they will be around for a long time and be a workhorse for S&W like the old model 10...going strong for 100+ years, & 5 million guns and counting.

Enjoy your classic,
Jack

First non .38 special wheelgun I ever shot was a 8" 686. It belonged to the wife of an NRA instructor, at a indoor range/gunshop I was in practically every minuet I wasn't in class or work during high-school. He gave me the pistol a 100 round box of his .357 hand-loads and said have at it. I was shooting three round strings at 15 yards, at one of those targets with 12 6" slow fires on it. After 36 rounds in, each target had a neat little 3 leaf clover punched right in the bulls eye :D

A 6 or 8" 686 has been on my "short list" for a long time...I got one step closer to it yesterday ;)

I have a "4 Model-686 I bought used about 30 years ago. It has a Millet Red Dot with BSquare mounts on it. I have had dozens of people wanting to buy it over the years.Even after thousands of rounds of everything from mouse fart .38 Spl's to full house .357's, it's tight, accurate, and the trigger just gets better with use. I also have a 6" blued Python and a blued 4" Model 19-4. They all seem to shoot about the same but the Python is the sexiest looking. Just my $0.02 worth.

I think colt and smith are very close in quality. I wouldn't want to call out a winner. The two smith combat magnums I have the pleasure to own are very smooth functioning and very accurate. Ive shot and held a few colts and love them too. Next on my smith list is a 686 preferably a 6" or maybe a 586 6" I do only have one blued revolver and its awfully lonely.
