Smith and Wesson 586-3 good buy???

Thanks for all of your input. Just bought it, cleaned it up and the bluing looks like black glass, what a piece of art. It is a precision made firearm. I even hate to shoot it. There is just something about a twenty year old Smith and Wesson, they were made almost to perfection.

Let us know how it shoots.

Don't let the pretty face fool you. My 4" 586-3, bought new about 16 years ago, is very inaccurate. Shoots patterns at 25 yds. It's about to go on its second (or third?) trip back to S&W. Would've been long gone if it wasn't so nice looking....oh, and the great trigger; can't overlook that.

Hope yours does better.

I've expressed my opinion about the Model 586 elsewhere on this forum. You got a good deal. As far as I'm concerned, the 586 is the ultimate DA .357 Magnum revolver. I'll pick it anytime over the vaunted Model 27 or the Python.

And, for cryin' out loud, shoot the thing! That's what its made for. As to marring the finish, look at the photos of mine I posted, they've had over 5,000 rounds fired through them.

This revolver is like driving a Cadillac. I cannot believe how smooth this gun shoots. Plus the accuracy is awesome. The recoil is very little. I am glad I made the investment. It shoots as well if not better than my 1911s.

Ya they're nice. Saying that they're better than other S&Ws is a matter of taste, but I know I like mine. For $340, you did great.

Here is my 586 no dash 4in nickel. Somewhat an uncommon variation

Buy it! Unless it has some undisclosed issue it is a steal. You can shoot the snot out of it and always get your money out of it unless you let it rust or blow it up!

Looking for these handles with medallions

Does anyone know where i can get a pair of the white grips on the Smith and Wesson pictured above??

I don't like the double-barreled shotgun look at the 586/686 at all, but for that price I'd be very hard pressed not to bite.

A 4" and I'd definitely bite.
