Hi, I just bought one of these today, and I am cleaning it up. I noticed a little bit of grubbiness (no big deal) around the edges of the grips. Does anyone know how to remove the grips, WITHOUT breaking anything. Is a special tool required? Thanks in advance.

On the S&W 1 piece plastic type grips, drift out the retainer pin in the bottom of the grip, pull the grip back and down, you may have to spread it a little...........

While you've got 'em off, you might want to consider picking up a set of Hogue grips for it. They make a great pistol feel even better. The only drawback is that, with some IWB holsters, the grip can stick to your shirt and slow down weapon presentation...

Congrats again on an excellent purchase!

Drift out pin at bottom of grip with a punch. Use pin for leverage by sticking it in small hole on bottom rear of grip and pull up & away from pistol. To reinstall put front top of grip on first, sometimes you have spread grip alittle with your hand to get it started, then push forward and down until it snaps in place. Tap pin back into place.

Recoil spring(s) in 4013TSW

Thanks guys. Larry helped me out in a PM and I appreciate it. Thanks again.
Now I have another question. When I pulled it all apart, There were TWO springs on the guide rod. One looks like a perfect fit, and the other is quite a bit larger. It doesn't look like it would interfere with anything, but it looks weird to me. IS THIS NORMAL???

OH, BTW, this is the pistol WITHOUT the accessory rails.

Thanks in advance!

OORAH!!!

I wasn't sure, it looked okay...but it looked kinda strange too. Appreciate the fast reply.

Tactical pistols are said to come from S&W`s custom shop, more careful hand fitting, equals a better shooting hand gun, so they say...
I just purchased a Tactical 4553 and after replacing the factory grips with a set of Hogues, I must say I`m very impressed with it. The super price of it from CDNN was a big plus also..........

Actually the Tacticals are regular assembly line guns with "features" that were introduced by the Performance Center. Performance Center guns have the Performance Center logo on them and cost quite a bit more than the "regular" Smiths. Still a superb weapon by any measure.

Hey Turk...

I think I remember that the 4013 Tactical has slide rails toward the front of the gun as well for added stability, where the old 4013 just has the ones in the back. Do they still make the standard 4013? If so it maybe that the front rails are on the newer versions.
