Being a Marine 0311 "Infantry rifleman if you arnt familiar with USMC mos'" I am very familiar with the basic fundamentals of shooting.
I know about sight alignment, sight picture etc...problem is I am new to revolvers and handguns in general.."besides the M9 beretta"
The sights on my 686 are a bit different from an M16 or M249 saw,
although it has the front site tip and rear sights it dosnt line up comfortably like what Im used to... its kinda hard to explain this lol... but it dosnt seem right when I make the top of the front sight tip Flush with the rear sight when aiming in, is that how you are supposed to aim in with this gun? or are you supposed to put the base of the red on the front site tip at the top of the rear site? Does anyone know what the proper way to sight in is or is it just up to the users choice

I guess you have a front sight with an orange plastic insert. If you do have this configuration then what you do is line the front sight up in the back sight so that it fills the slot in the back sight. The next thing you should do is to get a pistol rest and squeeze off a few rounds on a target at 10 yards. That will tell you pretty quickly what's going on. With a 686 it's easy to adjust the back sight so it won't take long.
