Smith 686P a very solid Magnum

Ive had mine for over a year and a half now and have easily put over 10,000 magnum rounds down range. The gun still looks like it just came out of the box and the cylinder is locked as tight as when I picked it up. I here alot about the mighty ruger GP-100 and Im sure its a great gun as good as people say but I dont think the 686 is given nearly enough credit. With as many rounds as ive put down range with this gun and its still excellent shape, how can it get better?

How can it get better ? Probably can't, at least not much. The 686 is also extremely accurate. I think it will become a "classic Smith & Wesson" of the future.

I'd have to disagree. I've read many posts here and on other forums and most agree, the S&W 686 may be the 'top' 357/38 revolver of all time. Mine is a beauty.

Mine is an older 6 shot model (no dash), but I really can't ask for anything more out of a general purpose wheelgun. Well, it is sorta heavy and isn't really meant for CCW, but other than that I really like it. Some people don't like the look of the full underlug but personally I don't care, I actually like the extra little bit of weight out there. I haven't found myself wanting that extra shot, either, but I'm not throwing rocks at those who do want it.

Is the 686 due to be the next "modern classic" from S&W? I can't say, but what I can say is that I'm just tickled to death with the one I've got. It seems to me that the L Frames are the end result of a whole lot of experience on S&W's part, and it shows it, especially in the older examples like mine. A melding of the strengths of the K frames and the N frames, with a full underlug.
