Smith 617 with Weaver Sight

This sight has worked out well on several rimfire revolvers. Likewise, the Velocitors show very nice performance at 50 yards.

I have a 617 and would like to know where you got the weaver rail? Is it just a screw on mount or did you have to drill & tap a hole for the weaver rail?

Its a standard weaver base that fits the rear sight screw hole and the other two drilled and tapped holes under the rear sight in the top strap. Pretty standard unit and not expensive.

Hello, mec!

It's more accurate than I am, although it's not a High Standard. I meant to mention earlier that I like the way the scope on yours extends backward over the trigger. Mine puts too much weight forward—and it's already got plenty of forward weight.

I bought mine about a year before Smith & Wesson hopped into bed with the Snopes Clinton-Liar Gore régime, and ordered Herrett's stocks for it. It proved a pretty good shooter after I did a trigger job, so I sent it to Magnaport for bead blasting and barrel crowning and jeweling of the trigger and hammer. My arthritis and computer wrist got worse instead of better, so I took a gunsmith at his word that he could match the finish, and had him install a six-inch barrel. The finish didn't match.

Meanwhile, I found a High Standard Victor that's a better shooter, so I left the model 617 in the closet for many moons. I recently had the original barrel put on and the Ultra Dot mounted. It's a pretty gun, which is why I painted a picture of it, and accurate, too, but way too heavy for my wrist. I'll take a cue from the picture of yours and see whether I can't move the scope back a bit to help the balance.

If I'd ever found a good K 22, I doubt I'd have bothered with the model 617 in the proverbial "first place." Oh, well. Life includes occasional disappointments and surprises.
