SmartCarry Invisible Holster

I recently purchased an S&W 340PD for CC. I used to alternate between a S&W M38 and a Kel-Tec P3AT for carry. Love both of them, but it took quite a bit of tinkering and a return to the factory to get the P3AT working properly. Not exactly a confidence builder, but it sure is light and it "seems" reliable now. The M38 is great, but I wanted something lighter. The 340PD ended up being almost exactly what I wanted (almost, because I prefer a Bodyguard style to the Centennial, but that's only a minor complaint I suppose). Light as a cap pistol, .357 Magnum power, and about as reliable as a hammer. I usually carried the M38 in an Uncle Mikes pocket holster. Great holster and better than others I have tried that cost me a lot more. Only problem is you lose the use of one of your pockets. A problem unless you're wearing cargo pants (I don't).

A friend gave me his old belly band holster from when he worked homicide in the Chicago PD. He said I'd love it and, honestly, it is a nice holster. I had already ordered a Smart Carry Invisible Holster and I was thinking of returning it when it arrived since I now had the belly band.

Well, after wearing the Invisible Holster for one day I have to say it is one of the best holsters I've ever owned. :) I don't normally come to that sort of conclusion in so short a time, but I was amazed at how well the 340PD carries in it and how well it conceals the 340PD even in relatively tight jeans. No, its not something you would forget you are wearing, but it certainly comes close. The construction is great and the material that keeps sweat from the gun while it "breathes" (Cushmax?) really seems to work. I was out planting saplings today and wore the holster just to see how it felt while working. It really works. Will have to see how I like it after a week or two, but I'm certain this is one holster that won't be left in the closet like others I have.

I've got a Smart Carry on the way. I'm planning on carrying my Taurus PT-145, but I was told that the holster is the exact same size used for J-frames, so my 642 is another possibility. I've messed around with IWB with the PT-145, but it hasn't been working. Losing the love handles would probably help, but I've been more concerned about the gun showing than the pressure on my side. My everyday attire is jeans and t-shirts (not tucked in.) Thought IWB would be the way to go, but some of my t-shirts are shorter than others. If I bend over or reach up high for something, I'm flashing the grip. Some t-shirts are thinner material than others and print more too. I'm a new concealed carry license holder and I've been rather conscious of the gun at my side.

I'm hoping the Smart Carry works out. If not, I'll probably go pocket holster with the 642. I carry my wallet, cell phone, keys, and knife in my front pockets though, so that route would take some rearranging. I like the idea of the Smart Carry, because it should work even when wearing shorts, where I'd be afraid of a pocket gun slipping out of baggy pockets when sitting down. I'll report back after I've had a chance to try the new rig out.

I routinely carry in a SC in summer in TX. I used to carry my Ultra CDP in it, until I sold that pistol. Other pistols carried are a Taurus 605 .357 2", or a Kimber Pro Carry. The Kimber is a bit long in the grip for my taste for this style of carry, but it's going off to a smith for a bobtail conversion soon, so I hope that will help. Any type of elastic waisted shorts are perfect for SC useage. It does help a lot to wear some sort of undershirt when using the SC as sometimes the velcro strap can chafe.

340pd holster

I'm also experimenting with a good way to carry this incredible revolver. I bought an uncle mike's pocket holster that do the job on long pants and jeans. The only thing is that depending on the style of jeans, when you draw the fist is to big to clear the pocket ready to fire. On shorts I agree that the pistol shifts inside the pocket and some times it draws with the holster attached (not a good thing). So I started carrying it IWB with the same pocket holster. It does an ok job but sometimes when you are bending and squating the revolver tend to ride up. Also for IWB carry I would put bigger grips. I'm torn because I wanted to carry it inside the pocket to double up as a BUG and primary weapon. If i put a bigger grip it will bulk more inside the pocket. Making it even harder to clear in some jeans. I know what the solution is, :D buy a second 340pd or better 340sc and have one with big grips and the other with little grips. I'll just keep reading at the pool of knowledge that these forum has. P.S. I was considering the clip that goes on the side of the revolver, but I don't know how that will affect it for pocket carry. ( back to the two guns) :D

I'm 6' tall and weigh 170. I use a Smartcarry for either my SP101 or my S&W 908. Since I'm thin concealment is a concern. I have asked a couple of buddies to find the weapon on me. Even though they knew I was packing they were not able to spot the gun. Smartcarry is also all day comfortable for me, even riding on one of my motorcycles.
