GMTV has had a look at the secret second phase of the SW plan for smart firearms. Recently, many innocent civilians have been killed in altercations with police. Unarmed civilians have been shot by police in major urban areas due to misidentifications where both the police and civilian do not recognize each other. Police have claimed that the civilian have not complied to commands and presented wallets or become surly to officers. The officers have shot them.
SW has decided that radio technology is the solution to the smart gun problem. Officers will wear wrist band and guns will detect them.
However, this technology has the added benefit of protecting civilians from police mistakes.
After a NICS check, law abiding citizens will be able to obtain a receiver that one can wear or keep in your pocket. It can be set to vibrate or make a sound or both. When it detects a nearby LEO gun - it will signal its presence. Thus the citizen will know that the charging set of officers are police. SW recommends throwing up your hands immediately and freezing in place.
Since ownership will be only after the highly efficient NICS system that has kept 500,000 felons from buying gun - no criminal will have a detector.
Thus, smart technology will avoid horrors like the Diallo case. The Fraternal Order of Police and other major LEO organizations are in support. In reward, the Clinton administration has promised more conventions and cars for chiefs.
