Smart A$$ wives and 243 Winchesters

About 12 years ago I had a Winchester M-70 action laying around and a wife without a low kicking hunting rifle (she broke her back and has three rods in it).

So I built her a 243. She shot a couple deer with it over the years but hasn't shot it in about three or four years.

I'm suppose to go to Portland for about a week and she tell me she just might shoot a deer if one crosses through the back pasture while I'm gone.

I said right, you probably couldn't find the ammo, let alone still shoot the rifle. (I don't know when the last time she shot anything but a pistols).

She promply digs out a box of shells from her desk, loads the rifle and takes aim at a 200 yard 6 inch gong. Three shots, rapid fire, ding ding ding, and puts the rifle up like its no big deal. (except for the smirk on her face).

Dern smart a$$ wives.

After 33 years + of marriage I have had to slip off with my tail between my legs when I challenged the wife on some stuff a few times. Now I just keep my mouth shut. :D

Yeah really. if she tagged a deer how would she move it out of the pasture?

Cool that she could ring the gong consistently though. Also cool that you have a gong constantly hanging behind your house you can just shoot on a whim, my home owner's association probably wouldn't like that a whole lot.

She can handle it.

Haha great title, she must must've had a good mentor ;) funny how it seems she knew what you were going to say lol, unless she just keeps Ammo laying around just to prove you wrong on occasion.

My wife also has a .243, and she routinely shoots smaller groups with it than I can with my .30-06.

I'd like to believe that the .243 is just "inherently accurate", but I know that's rubbish...

And, yes, we use similar affectionate terms to describe each other. :)

Looks like between her and that granddaughter of yours, you better keep the ol' rifle skills sharp, or they might just be eatin' your lunch...:p

I like the way you drag them out. That beats a four wheeler everyday! As for field dressing - lift em up and cut em and it all comes out real nice. We've done that before.

this is precisley the type of question or remark you should never make to the wife..lol

cuz you might find that deer sitting on your favorite toilet/reading seat when you come back. All you can do is move it and not say a word.....:o

In fact my woman is my hero also. When I was deployed in 2003 overseas she kept the homefront running smoooth so I could keep my head on my job over there. That changed my world view a lot when I came back.
