Smaller Parishes around NOLA?

Does anyone know of any relief efforts specifically for the smaller parishes around N.O.?
Are the people from these areas being taken to the same shelters/ aid stations as the N.O. residents?
We have been hearing reports from freinds about damage in other areas (such as St. Bernard Parish) that received some pretty severe damage, but they are not making the media in the way that N.O. is.
Does anyone know what is being done to assist in these other areas?

From what I understand, not much. St. Tammany parish has basically started to clean up with no help from Fema. As far as St Bernard and Plaquemines parishes, unfortunatly no one can reall get to alot of that area to setup any relief stations. They've (Coast Guard and locals, not Fema) been rescuing anyone they can get to by boat or copter.

I read that Plaquemines parish just isn't there anymore. Not just that the houses are leveled, but that most of the land is just simply in the Gulf.

I still can't seem to soak that in.

They say that all of the 40,000 homes in St Bernard are damaged to some extent. Jefferson Parish isn't doing too bad. They're got some dry land and are starting the cleanup, largely without government help. The same goes for Tangipahoa, Washington, and East Baton Rouge Parishes.

I'm not sure about the counties in Mississippi, but I think that they've gone so far without much Fema help.

You can go to www.nola.com to read some local news. It's a website run by the Times-Picayune (the N.O. local newspaper). They've done a great job of reporting about all of Southeast Louisiana. They have alot of pictures of all over the area.
