Small CC mouse gun?

gunpowder

New member
It has been a few months since I searched the forum for the latest in small guns. Since it is summer I thought I might pick up one for cc since my second child is now born and the bills are finally comming in and being paid off.

I think Kahr has released a new gun and I was looking at the NAA Guardian but wished a 9mm could be had that would be mouse sized. My Preagreament SW99 just doesn't hack it in the summer T-shirt heat.

Any reliable weapon suggestions?

Check out Kel-Tec (I think they have a website). They make a PPK sized 9mm or .40 which hold 10 and 9 rounds in the clips, respectively. I have the 9mm version, and it has been reliable, although not very accurate (it's got a DAO trigger which I'm still getting used to).

They also make a .32 which is smaller than most .25's, and lighter than any (and I mean any) semi-auto.

Finally, they're reasonably priced (the 9's and .40's around 220-250, and the .32 is taking a premium closer to 300).

Been lurking here for a while on my own quest for the Holy Grail of pocket guns, and basically have come to realize that even veteran shooters disagree vehemently over which are good/bad guns, and I, being opinionated, am no different. That being said, the Kel-tec P32 is hot right now - it has numerous advantages such as low recoil (due to a locked breach design) and extremely low weight (6 oz.) and size. Its chief disadvantage is that it is still a Kel-Tec, if you don't like those. Just read a post a couple of days ago where some guy's P32 slide cracked. Otherwise, you could choose the Beretta Tomcat, still of dubious reliability, with many posts detailing the pistol jamming / self-destructing. And then there's the Guardian 32 - heavy, uncomfortable to shoot, and many have had to send theirs back multiple times. Overall, not inspiring track records by defense pistol standards.
Even if you get a good one, it's still a .32 - see Towert's Stopping Power Page and you'll realize it's a little too close to a 22 lr for real confidence. All in all, you would still be hard-pressed to beat the power/reliability of the plain ole' hammerless .38 snub. I like my S&W 638, but have been considering going for a .45 like the AMT Backup (see my post), sacrificing some of that comfort and small size for some more power.
Sorry for long post, got on a roll.

I really hate to keep belaboring the point, but the Glock 26 is the perfect small CCW pistol. I carry mine in an IWB holster covered with a t-shirt. Gun disappears!!!!
I have tried pocket carry with the G26. It works just as well as the IWB method. The gun is invisable, whether in a pocket or in the waistband. Why FA#T around with mouse guns when you can carry 10rds of 9mm+P with a 17rd backup in a sub compact package!! Ain't going to find a mouse gun that will even come close to doing that. If 9mm is not your thing, you can get the G27 (.40S&W),G33 (.357SIG), G30 (.45ACP), or the G29 (10mm) in the same, or just slightly bigger package. Please think before you get a mouse gun!!!!

"Glock 26: 17 rounds of concealed carry DEATH comming your way from out of nowhere!!! THAT'S FIREPOWER, BABY!!!"

The "Pigmy" Glocks are outstanding CCW guns but a tad heavy with light shorts in the deep south (my opinion entirely and not a flame).

When I can not carry my compact everyday gun (HK Compact) I opt for a Beretta Tomcat .32 ACP. Granted I am not as "comfortable" as with my HK but the first rule of a gun fight is bring a gun.

I am well aware that the Kel-Tec P32 is the hottest thing since sliced bread as of late and I must admit I checked them out along with the NAA's and all the others. I chose the Tomcat because it fits my hand the best.

Bottom line; if you're going to carry a "mouse gun" choose one that fits and is reliable. Don't be duped by what is the small or lightests because you have to shoot the little bugger and hit what you're shooting at.

BTW, 7 to 10 yard ranges are the distances to consider as effective. Anything beyond is gravy.

My new summer carry gun is a Kel-Tec P-32 in hard chrome. In the spring, fall, and winter, my Glock 19 with 17+1 rounds of 9mm is my standard carry fare. However, in this 90 degree+ weather shorts and a t-shirt are standard fare and the Glock becomes really hard to conceal. That's where the P-32 comes in.

*low recoil (locked breech vs blowback)
*extreme light weight and small size(polymer and aluminum const.)
*maximum "mousegun" stopping power when compared to 22LR, 22WMR, or 25ACP
*Higher capacity than either the NAA Guardian or Seecamp
*priced at about half either Guardian or Seecamp when you look around

I put mine in the oversized watch pocket of most jeans, or behind my wallet. I love it.

I already found my "holy grail" of always-present front-right-pocket mouse gun.

10 year old Dick Casull .22magnum 4-shot minirevolver. 1.4" barrel, SA wheelgun, can fling 30grain CCI JHPs at over 1,150fps. Has an ultra-small one-finger grip smaller than current-production NAA .22Mag minirevolvers - it's more a "magnum version" of the NAA .22LR series.

Accuracy: all four shots in a handspan at 7 yards, firing one shot per second...using my custom front sight :).

Is it OK as a "sole gun"? Hell no. It's a backup, enough to make some moron think twice while I reload a dry J-Frame .38 while ducking behind a car. Or it's a "front pocket surprise" - some nut wants my wallet, cool, he gets a round from "baby" right in the face, faster than he can blink :).

But it's always there...or rather, will be again when I score CCW. For the duration of my Calif CCW legal fight (lawsuit #2 coming soon) I'm in cutlery-only mode.

I'm with Big Al!

Got my KT P-32 hard chromed and in my back pocket right now in a custom holster.

Don't listen to anybody pushing those Tomcat POS jammomatics. Heard nothing but horror about them.

BTW - my standard IWB carry gun is a G26/G30 depending on the perceived risk. But the G26 is not a summer or shorts gun. In your pocket . . . please. They have to be carried IWB, SOB, fanny pack, or ankle holster all of which defeats versatile application.

Seecamps and Guardians are nice and heavy and expensive. They're quietly working on polymers from I understand.

Get a P-32 if you find one!

For a mouse my son and I both carry the Autauga MkII .32 auto. They are all stainless steel and available from CDNN for $250. If weight is a concern a S&W 342 is a .38 Spec. and only weighs about 10 ozs, less than the Autauga.

American Derringer in .410 with 000 buck loaded. 6 holes with two pulls of the trigger in a package that tucks in your pocket and no one is the wiser about it. Dead reliable and low maintenance. Less than 5" long, only around 1" wide and weighs about 16oz. Two tunnel-like barrels pointing at you where you can see the twin shells nestled in their little stainless steel homes gives it pretty good intimidation value. If you practice, you can draw, cock it, point it and get a shot off as fast as you need to anyway. Remember, it's not a fast draw contest!

I definitely know that I am in the minority in regards to a derringer, but variety is the spice of life!

I carry the Kel-tec p32 and have been happy with it. I have shot the gardian and think it is a fine gun. The P32 is in my pocket most of the time. But I carry a old S&W Mod 36 or a Kahr 9 as my main carry guns, then the Kel-tec is a back up. The S&W goes in my back pocket and with the Kahr I uese an IWB holster. What I carry depends on where I am. The order of ease of carry and concealment is the P32, the S&W Modle 36 and them the Kahr. I do carry the stubby alot.

Sorry to burst the bubble. I or rather my wife had final say and I chose the Guardian over the P32. The gunshop reduced the price of the P32 to match the Guardian but I still went with the Guardian. My wife didn't like the checkered feel of the p32 and liked the Guardian better.

Since she might carry it in the winter months when I am carrying the SW99 I asked her opinion. I felt they were both comparble except for the weight difference.

The gun shop reduced the price of a P32 to match a Guardian? The P32 should be nearly $100 less than a Guardian already. A Guardian is about $350 and the P32 is not more than $269 now that production is up. I am waiting for it to drop to the near $200 levels of the P-11. An Autauga is a bit less chunky than a Guardian, closer to the Seecamp that it was based on and only $250.

Spose I'm in the decided minority here, but my Tomcat has worked ok with ball and Golddots. I carry it when I'm not carrying. Ordered a Galco front pocket holster for my 27 for the helluvit, not here yet, we'll see. Course I feel 'best' armed when I have my 30. Personal preference, I guess.

I use both a S&W M342 and P32. With dress shorts the M342 easily hides in a pocket holster.

The P32 generally only comes along when exercising or for pants that don't have deep wide pockets (like on my tuxedo).

I'm with you, Jim- almost. I always carry an NAA .22 magnum mini with one empty chamber. The advantage is in "always." You forget the gun is there and thus are encouraged to always have it. It is accurate enough. I figure if I meet up with a BG it will be in my apartment building elevator, and the .22 will be sufficient. As I drop my wallet in sheer terror I can pluck the NAA from my right front pocket, and then have 4 opportunities to defeat crime. For more serious episodes I have a 1911 in my truck, and keep all manner of greater horsepower at our country place.

JEFF OMTG,

I bought my Guardian for $329. The P32 was $30 more but he reduced it to $329 thinking I would go for it at that price.
