Hey guys, sorry for posting soo much, im just new and have so many questions. I have heard that there are slugs that perform wonderful in a smooth bore, i have a smoothbore, no choke, its the 18 in HD rem 870, i know its not choked, just not sure what its called. Again thanks

About the only real way to find what slugs will do well in YOUR shotgun is to try the various brands available. Every gun seems to like different brands and for someone to say this or that brand is best, is giving you bad info. The reccomendation may in fact work well for you, but, still the best way is personal testing. Don't bother with the Sabot slugs as they definatly will not work well in a smooth bore gun, they need the rifling to stabilize. I haven't shot any in years but I have heard good things about the Brenneke slugs. I suspect it is because they have the wad attached to the slug and it acts like fletching on an arrow and forces the slug to fly point on better.

Try the Fiocchi 1 1/4oz slugs. They are 2 3/4" long. The wad stays attached during flight which apparently stabilizes the slug. Out of my Winchester 1200 slug barrel they give really good patterns at 50 yards.

As Ruger4570 said, try several to know for sure. Long ago(age 15, ~1968) I stood 20 ga slugs(all Foster-type, that's all we had back then!) side by side, & noticed that the Remington slug was a little longer than the Winchester which was a little longer than the Federal. Hmm... My shotgun(a 20 ga Rem 870, my Christmas present at age 12 & my first real gun that was really mine!) back then always shot better groups with Remington slugs than the others. I always thought it was because the Remingtons were longer with a longer thinner skirt. After all, Foster slugs are stabilized by the "shuttlecock principle". :D

But the only way to find out is to try 'em!

Thank you guys soo much for your help, going off to my first range tommorrow, being as i just turned 18 today(sunday june5) cant wait, again guys thanks soo much for your help.
