Slugs for Mossberg Rem 870 barrel

I got a Mossberg-made 24" rifled, rifle-sights slug barrel for my Rem 870 express 12 gauge. Mossberg says the riflling is 1x36". I will use this setup to hunt deer. I'm looking for a consistent, good-grouping slug.

I understand that I am supposed to try different slugs and see how they group, and I will. I plan on using sabot slugs for improved accuracy, but I am open to suggestions. I have read that heavier slugs (400 gr and 1 oz) may work better in this barrel.

I have a few questions for anyone who might be able to help. If anyone is shooting this setup, what slug(s) grouped well and badly for you? Do Mossberg barrels perform best with a particular brand, model, weight, or velocity of slug? Does the 1x36 rifling slug suggest a particular velocity or slug weight?

Any theoretical or experimental info would help me narrow my search, save some money, and save my shoulder.

Try the Hornady SSTs. I shoot them out of my Remington 870 and my buddy shoots them out of his Mossy. I have a Red Dot scope on mine and he has a scope on his. They group really good out of both guns

Good news. Thanks. I have some and plan to try them. My buddy shoots them successfully out of his 870, but he has a Rem factory barrel. I'm glad to hear your buddy's Mossberg likes em.

For the best accuracy you need to shoot some groups off the bench with as many brands of sabot slugs as you can get.
Shotguns are picky about the ammo, and what works great in one gun will group poorly in another gun of the same brand and type.

With a rifled barrel you should shoot sabot slugs ONLY.
