Slugs are so EXPENSIVE!

I just recently got a hastings fully rifled slug barrel, and now I am getting ready to sight in my scope. I did not think about how expensive sabot slugs are, but they are $2 a PIECE. Does anyone know an alternative with a rifled barrel? OR cheap website for Sabot slugs. OR do I just have to suck it up, and pay $2 a piece? Thank you in advance, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

ammunitiontogo.com has remington reduced recoil 12 ga 2 3/4 slugs for 9.95 per 25 rds

edited: nevermind...noticed that you have a rifled barrel

Did you folks read the guys post? He has a fully rifled barrel, and here you are, recommending Foster type slugs to him. Wow.

Brenneke USA K.O. Ammunition 12 Gauge 2-3/4" 1 oz Foster-type Slug Box of 5 A tremendous slug for deer-sized game, expands up to .9" and works with both smooth and rifled barrels.

From retailer site.....

Thanks alot I just ordered 100 shells for 52 bucks. Thats pretty good pricing there...

So wait, can I use those types of slugs even if they aren't sabots? I thought I could only shoot sabots through my rifled barrel. I don't want to "damage" this barrel either it is a Hastings, and they are pretty expensive. Thanks

you'll foul the barrel quickly if you shoot lead fosters though it. also, you won't be taking advantage of the potential increase in range associated with shooting saboted bullets. if you're only going to sight it in and hunt with it, i'd suck it up and buy the remington core-lokt or winchester partition golds. once sighted in, you shouldn't spend much each year on ammo. i guess the other way would be to handload the sabots. that would probably save some money.

If you reload, you might try using the, I believe Lyman slugs, that you mold yourself. They look like a giant pellet. They drop right into a 1 1/8oz shot wad and are very accurate out of my Remington slug barrel, not as accurate as regular sabot factory rounds, but about 8" at 100yards. The Lyman slugs ride on the plastic wad so there is no lead fouling of the barrel.

You could probably save money if you loaded slugs up yourself. I'm not sure how much you would save by reloading slugs, but the savings with shot are significant.

The Lee Load-All reloading press is pretty cheap. Midway has them for $39.

The slugs will most likely go on sale soon at reduced prices. And yes, they are pretty pricy, but the performance is much better than Foster type slugs. As posted, Fosters won't do any damage to your gun it is just that they tend to lead up the bore fast.

Where will slugs be going on sale? And when? Gun stores around here don't put slugs on sale for the most part. Would Wal-Mart have sales?

ive shot regular hollow point slugs out of my 11-87 fully rifled barrel, and it was really accurate. i cleaned the barrel after every 15 round box and it never gave me any problems. with my 3-9x, i could make one hole groups from 75 yards. i thought it was pretty good for a shotgun

I have no idea of the timing as to when any company will put slugs up for sale. I have seen them at sale prices at Wally World, Bass Pro and Gander Mtn. at times.

Just found a website we have all heard about, but their hastings laser accurate sabot slugs are so CHEAP!!!!! $7.50 for 5! AND their shipping is CHEAP too! Thought I would let you all know about this. I just ordered 5 boxes.

Fully Rifled slugs are easy to get cheap, at least that is what I have found. Getting good sabot slugs is difficult to get cheap though. What is that website, and really dumb question but what is FFL?
