Slug Review

I recently purchased a Henry side gate 410 lever action shotgun and have been on the hunt for some slugs. I found this brand on opticsplanet.com and purchased a few boxes.

This Henry is a 20 inch smoothbore barrel with rifle sights. Bench rested @ 50 yards and shooting 35 rounds, I could not even get a group. They hit the target but it was all over the place.. left.. right..high and low.

Needless to say, no accuracy whatsoever with these rounds. Also, it left lots of Wad fouling in the barrel. Clearly this indicates cheap wad being used and the lack of resin I guess which makes it heat resistant. I’ve always had great results with Winchester brand slugs but there are none to be found. I will do a follow up 50yd review when I get some Winchester and/or Brenneke slugs!

Save your money, I do not recommend these at all.

Never even heard of them but thanks for the info.

Any chance you've tried some patterns with the different buckshot loads? I'm curious as to how tight the patterns are- I bought a S&W Governor on a bit of an impulse and past 10 yards I'm lucky to get all 3 balls of 000 on an IDPA target.

My wife killed 7 in a row with Federal 410 slugs. Her gun is a cut down Savage pump with K3 scope. She has whacked several groundhogs and a couple Red Fox too. They also shoot well out of Savage 24, old model. I shot Brenneke 12g for years in my Brn A5 slug gun with excellent results. They ought to be killer in 410 but I never had any. Guns I’m referring to are all smooth bore.
