My next gun will be a pump action shotgun, which type I don't know yet. It will mostly be used for bird hunting, but can you fire slugs out of a smoothbore shotgun? I would rather not mess with interchangeable barrels.
You can shoot the foster rifled slugs out of a smooth bore with any choke up to and including full choke. I would not shoot them out of an extra full turkey choke. There are also rifled choke tubes just for shooting slugs, I use one in an 870 and it works very well.
Yes you can! Rifled slugs so named because of the angled cuts along the body of the slug, are perfectly suited for use in smooth bore scatterguns. Accuracy is not bad out to 50 - 75 yrds. You may also shoot sabot slugs thru your smooth bore but IMO not worth the price tag.
As a general matter, with a couple exceptions, the Brenneke slugs are the best and for smooth bores will shoot out to 100 yrds and kill anything on earth.

+1 on the Brenneke slugs, I save those for when something needs killing. I use the Winchester and Federal slugs for plinking, jack rabbits, coyotes and any time I feel like a sore shoulder.
