slug gun sights?

what would be the best sight system for a 12ga slug gun? I want to use it primarily 50yds and closer but may get some shots out to 100 yds or so. I've got a scope for it, but am thinking maybe a red dot. I don't like regular rifle sights. Please let me know your thoughts, all opinions welcomed.

I'm no big fan of scopes for slug guns. There's a 2.5X one around here someplace that came off an 870 after all I could see when mounting was grey hair. That shot opp was maybe 12 yards.

I don't do well with open sights either, but that's age and vision glitches.

My slug guns double as Home Insurance. They wear peep sights and group slugs of choice into nice neat groups at 100 yards but work at 12. Lots of venison behind them.

As for red dots, I look upon stuff I may need to save my life with that needs batteries with jaundiced eyes....

I have a old Weaver V3 scope that works well on a slug gun. It goes from about 1.1x to 3x. It's as fast as a red dot on the lower setting. The magnification is handy if you're trying to tell a spike buck from a doe.

The problem with scopes, is the magnification as even with a low power they will hadicap you. You will not be able to find a running deer, in the field. Now, most RedDot types have no magnification and once you learn how to use them, you will have absolutely no problen finding the deer and tracking it. We practice with rolling tires. Given a little time, your brain will program itself as to it's use. Might add that 100yd. shots might be a stretch but perhaps your eyes are better than mine. Might ask yourself if you think you really need one. The only scope I would mount on my slug-gun, is a RedDot type based primarily on the areas that I hunt. JMHO .. :o

Use a Weaver K1.5 for my shotguns for slugs.

Used side-saddle types for flate-side receiver, and that old Weaver K1.5.

Never a problem and the K1.5 loves the recoil.

I switched to a holographic type of red dot sight this year and I'm pleased with it. I also have regular sights on that gun in case something should ever happen.

My HD gun is a regular 870 w/ rifle sights. Don't need dots or magnification within the confines of a house.

I believe that rifle sights are nice.

Now, if you want to modify the gun, or you have one ready and you can afford to get a Holographic sight you like, go and get it.

But maybe it costs a fortune...

Personally, i will order any pump-action or semi-auto shotgun, with rifle sights.
Two barrel shotguns, with barrels up and down or side by side, traditional sights only.;)
(To be used on birds and rabbits hunt.)
