I just bought a wingmaster 870 with a monte carlo stock that someone had traded in at a local pawn shop and the gun was unfired. I was able to get the guy to sell the gun without the cantilever barrel because I wanted to get a hastings barrel. I was wondering if there is a difference between the 20in. barrel and 24in. other than four inches and more weight. Also was wondering what years did remington have the wingmaster with the monte carlo stock and a cantilever barrel.

20" vs. 24" Barrel
The extra 4" will give you more muzzle velocity, longer effective range, and less drop at distance, relative to the shorter barrel, all other factors being the same. BEFORE you buy a slug barrel be sure to decide what you are going to be shooting, as the rifled barrels are only optimum if used with sabots, while slugs like the Foster or other similar non-sabot slugs work much better in a smoothbore. Using a Hastings rifled barrel and their own sabots will give you fairly remarkable results, at least according to most reports I have seen up to now. There are a couple places you can go to get custom sabots, or the fixin's to make your own, if you are looking to try for MOA at long ranges.
I'm not going to post any of that here, because of the tendency for that to start fights, but a PM will get a response on what might help you out.
