Slug gun ammo

My dad aint the type to spend a lot of time out shooting. Even if he wanted to he just doesent have the time. I am getting him a rifled slug gun for a gift. I was trying to decide between rifle sights or scoped. He has a lot of ammo for his rifle laying around and uses whatever, it seems to work for him. Slugs i hear act a lot differently. Should i get the rifle sights so it is easier for him to adjust to different slugs. Or a scoped one and hope that he will get to the range enough to get sighted in and find slugs that will agree with the gun?
Thankyou

if u can afford it go for the scoped
and yes slugs act alot difrently . lot more kick
but a gun from your son is a heck of a gift and im sure he will like what ever you give him
as long as its not pink

I would rather have Buckhorn-style iron sights on a slug shotgun than a scope. Shotgun slugs aren't the most accurate things in the world, so why bother cluttering it up with a scope, making it clumsier and more expensive?

That's just my two cents.

If he uses a scoped rifle I'd probably get him one with a cantilever mount scoped barrel. If he uses iron sights on his deer rifle I'd get him the one with sights. I have a ghost-ring style sight on mine. If my eyes were bad I'd probably scope it.
I don't think you really need a scope at slug range.
If you get a scope, go for a low power one. A 1x4 would be about right.
The different types of sabot slugs I tried shot to very different POI. He ought to pick a brand and stick with it.
A small sandbag on his shoulder or recoil shield will come in handy when sighting it in. A beer and a couple of advil will come in handy when he's done.

Southern Michigan hunter here..

get the scoped shotgun, if a smoothbarrel use the Brenneke slug, not the Forster type, as its the most accurate from a smoothbore.
If rifled, then the gun will show you what it likes.
A scope will help sight-in and useful in low light.

Any gun, whether smooth or rifled will have its favorite slug. There is no way around it. It takes some testing of several makes to find the one that works. Sometimes you get lucky and find it right off, other times, more testing.
