Slug accuracy questions

Somebody have experience accruacy testing slug guns?
I'm having trouble getting accuracy with a new 870 synthetic cantilever barrel 12 ga. I've had an accurate (2 moa) rifled 870 before, with a Mossberg after market barrel, strange as it sounds, but not this one. Best accuracy load in past has been Federal 2/3/4 1 oz Barnes Expander.

This new gun grouped bad, so I changed the scope to another identical Bushnell Legend Shotgun scope. No improvement. Checked mount security, spent over a hundred bucks looking for a load it likes. Sent it back to Remington who put a new barrel on, but didn't test it, and sent it back. Best accuracy is 4 1/2 moa with Hastings SST, while my old reliable Federal load strings vertically at about 5 1/2 inches. 50 yard groups string to about 2 inches. Now I put a Leupold on it, but am looking for advice before trudging back to the range with another paycheck worth of ammo to test.

Is there a better gun? Better load? Solvable problem with this one? I'm looking for accuracy of 2/1/2 or better. Thanks a lot for any ideas.

Tighten the magazine cap as tight as you can by hand. Then pad a pair of slip-joint pliers with leather or terrycloth and tighten just _one_ more click. See if that helps...

Oh, and let a couple other folks shoot groups with the gun, see how it works for them. Could be you've been shooting too many slugs lately and your form has suffered thereby.

Good luck with it,
