Slings...

I'm not quite sure where to post this thread but I was wondering if there are any good recommendations for a good sling. My Remington 700 VS weighs a hefty 13.5 lbs +/- 1 lbs and I was wondering if there were any good weight-bearing slings available. At present, I just have a plain jane nylon sling but I would really like to get a sling that would make carrying this monster a little easier. This isn't a hiking rifle but sometimes I need to carry it a fair distance to our varminting location, so any help would be nice.

Go to the "Buy / Sell Holsters, gear, accessories" page. Someone has M60 slings for sale. That'll probably do the trick.

Also try Wal Mart. They have some nice adjustable leather slings for around $10 with a built in shoulder pad.

I got a Butler Creek Sling, Not leather. There are little rubber grippies on the shoulder side of the sling, no falling off the shoulder like leather slings. Works for me :)

A 13.5 lb gun? How far are you planning to hike?

I would look into the mountain sling, as advertised on the outdoor channel, a rifle like that would go over both my shoulders backpack style.

Good luck

Not a hiking gun...

I just need a good sling which will not dig into my shoulder when I am carrying the rifle. I know it is not a hiking gun but when I go varminting I sometimes have to carry this beast up to 2 klicks to get where we will setup to ambush local varmints. I looked at some of the Butler Creek slings but they looked a little weak to me but I have been known to be wrong... :)

I have the same gun.

I have a Rem 700 VS and it weighs a ton with a tactical stock, tapered base and tactical rings and a big scope. I bought a really nice sling from Midway USA. It is the Claw system. It comes with a pair of Hush Stalker sling swivels so there is no need to buy any (like I did). It really is a robust system. The green pad is some think 1/4" rubber and it is non slip. The sling swivels are made of some heavy plastic and they don't make a sound. That is what I bought for hauling around my Beast.

And of an odd note, when you go to that Midway USA link, note where it lists what people who bought that sling also bought. That is my 6.5x55 stuff on there! I think that is funny since that swede stuff had nothing to do with that sling.
