Sling swivel for lever gun!

I am wanting to put a sling on my Rossi 16in .357 Magnum rifle. Looking for suggestions as to what brand/kind of swivel set to get. Checked some on-line, but I have no idea as to the size of the magazine tube. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I prefer the type that slides down the tube, like this one.......

but I have used the split type in the above link without issue.

Trick in mounting sling hardware is not the barrel or magazine band. Its the Stock Screw placement & straightness. Seen many home installs that looked rather unusual to say the least. Keep in mind mounting a sling on a collector weapon reduces its value. Done badly or botched your rifle will take a substantial reduction in its collector & resale value. Just be careful and do it right._;)

I agree, the stock screw can be tricky sometimes, especially with a hand drill and an impatient operator.

One that still amazes me is my "factory" installed stud on my Marlin 1895G. The stock has the little "bullseye" inlay for the stud, but the stud was installed about an inch behind it.

.

FWIW, The Marlin "bullseye" is a Marlin trademark, not a sling swivel installation location - so, whomever installed your Marlin's buttstock stud was correct.

The rear stud should generally be located about 1-1/2"-2" ahead of the rear edge of the wood - which makes little difference on a Rossi, since they are not collectible (just amassable ;) ).

Many installers are sometimes a bit challenged to install the rear stud correctly.

I've always plumbed, squared & leveled the buttstock bottom line (bottom line "up") in my drill press after first center-punching the location, before drilling a pilot hole that's the root diameter of the stud's threaded section, about 1/8" deeper than the stud's threaded section's length.

You learn something new every day. :)

Most of the "fancy" rifles Ive seen over the years, seemed to have the inlay under the stud/swivel, so I always thought that was what that was for.
