How do I install it? I bought the Remington set that includes the stud and magazine cap. It says on the package " For all 870's, 1100's and 1187's" but gives no instructions on what size drill bit or anything.

Thanks.

Cntryboy,

I have heard that its pretty easy to crack a synthetic stock. Is the down two sizes on the bit for synthetic or wood?

no, it's what I use

I use the same dril no matter what stock I am drilling myself. You can go down just one size if you want to, but I would think you would be more apt for the threads to strip right out. You want the threads to have enough material to bite into, but not way undersized or you can crack it.

little tip

Take a bar of soap and rake the threads through it before driving the screw up tight. It will lubricate the wood or synthetic material and help the stud tighten up easily.

How do you plan to mark the hole and drill it? I would suggest for a one time deal to simply line it up by eye 2 1/2" from the bottom of the stock and centerpunch a spot centered in the stock. Wrap tape around the drill to mark the depth you need to drill into the stock to keep from going to deep. Make sure to keep the drill going in straight as well. Drill a pilot hole with a smaller drill first and then use the drill you need for the hole. The first hole will not only help keep the hole where you want it, but is sort of a practice run in case you need to make an adjustment with the larger drill. Good luck with it.

Cnrtyboy,

Did exactly what you said with the tape, soap and all. Thanks for the more in depth instructions, worked perfectly!!!!!
