Sling for shotgun without studs

I have the Rem 870 Express 12 gauge. They ship with studs now, but mine is about 6 years old, and it has no stud on the stock or on the extended tube. I don't like the wrap around slings. I think I can get a loop that fits between the mag tube and the mag cap. What are my options for getting a sling mounted?

Buy an Uncle Mike's sling stud for the rear and a replacement magazine tube cap with the built-in stud for the front (I picked up one on Ebay for less than $5 shipped).

Can't do that. Shotgun has a magazine extension, so there is no mag cap, and I'm not sure if I can drill the stud into a synthetic stock. The stock is hollow.

Can you get:
• A side mount swivel that will fit the extension clamp?
• An AR type* swivel for the synthetic stock? I'm not familiar with the details of the R-870X's stock, could you bond a shaped wood backer inside the stock.
*For those not familiar with the AR swivel: It fits in a transverse slot just forward of the butt plate. With a threaded hole, it also serves to anchor the lower butt plate screw.

Your basic sling can be made from a strip of leather and a couple of thongs. You can tailor it to your fancy and adapt it as needed.

I walk a lot so my favorites look like a shoulder holster with long straps. The wraparound keeps the shoulder strap from falling down. I carry muzzle down with the butt under my arm. I got the idea from Clyde Barrow (Bonnie & Clyde) he just screwed a strap to the butt of his BAR.

It's a very effective way to carry a rifle if you may need it in a hurry. Balloons over the muzzle will keep out water and dirt.

Is there no clamp holding the extension to the barrel. All that I have seen have one and there is a place on the clamp to attach a stud.

Thanks for the replies, but aren't there clamps or something that fit between the stock and the receiver or something? If I wanted to have a sling that I could use that would keep the gun hanging on the front of my body, what would I use? The Rem 870 is such a popular shotgun, I would think I can get anything I want. zoomie & zippy13 Have really given you some good options and links. I have intalled this type of stud on more than one sythetic buttstock. I have also used the standard screw stud and just put a piece of plastic or wood, inside the stock, as a backer. So far they work just fine.
They ship with studs now
I find this surprising as I just bought one for my Grandson, about three months ago and was surprised at items they excluded as oppose to included.

Pahoo,
the newer 870 with the extended mag tube have a sling stud in the hole on the clamp, and a stud in the synthetic stock. You can buy a new stock from Remington, but they come with a forend, and I don't want that since I switched out the smooth forend for a ribbed one for better grip.

One more dumb question: The vertical clamp will mount to the gun pointing up, while the other one sticks out to the side, right?

Now I understand what you have as I thought we were talking about a standard Express with a sythetic stock.

Hardly !!. You are correct on the verticle that the sling slot is pointing away from the barrel or down, in the typical position. The other can point to the right or left side per your requirements, just flip it over.
