Slimey SOB

This evening on the news to my suprise, I found out the my state (SC) treasurer got caught with nose candy. He claims that he is not a drug addict, nor was it to be given to the general public, but he had it to distribute to his "friends". With all the problems that our political leaders face to help us out in society, handling my state funds, this SOB is buying dope.Kids can't even get a ride to school on a decent bus, teachers are falling off the face of the world for pay reasons, our children learn from some of the same books we were taught from, our state education lottery(whatever) has so much money coming in, but only a very few thing have been upgraded. Now this!!!! I tell you what: If we pay there people to help solve our problems, why would they do that? They would be taking thier jobs away, hell,we have all given our leaders plenty of chances to help out, and we still get nowhere. I say " It's our turn as the citizens of this country, to make this place move forward."

So he confessed freely and voluntarily in public to possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. What a maroon. Hello, Club Fed. IIRC Federal PCS w/Intent is a 20-year hitch depending on quantity.

I know that from the times of the Greeks and Romans that elected officials often served themselves first, foremost and best. But still, I expect certain types of government officials to be held to a "higher standard" when it comes to common crimes. Elected officials, police, fire, EMS and those who exercise authority for government cannot, themselves, be flouting the law. Nor should they expect any leniency at sentencing for their service. That's just the way I see it.

Agreed. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse. Especially for those that make and enforce the laws.

what a dumbas*

In todays paper, it said he had less that 500 grams on hand.It also said he is facing up to 20 yrs. Ha ha. he'll be lucky to get 20 minutes.

This reminds me of the days when we had Prohibition. The only winners then were the bootleggers and gangsters who got rich selling whiskey to all the wealthy citizens and politicians. What hypocritical times.

And here we are again. Nicotine, one of the most addictive drugs ever, is sold at the corner drug store, while nose candy and marijuana, which are down in the category of a six pack of beer can get you 20 years.

At the same time, you can get your doctor to write any number of prescriptions for "sleep aids" that are far more addictive than nose candy.

Stupidity is forever.

Bob

I'm not sure what this guy's arrest for drug possession has to do with the OP's sad litany of purported budgetary ills afflicting South Carolin. So this guy spent his salary on "nose candy." Big deal. If he was siphoning money out of the treasury to finance his possession/use/distribution it might be a source of concern to the public generally. Otherwise, his drug habits have nothing whatever to do with how much teachers get paid. Get real.

And more to the point, Mr. McElwain is right.

Maybe he needed to get wired and awake so that he could pull all-nighters trying to solve the financial problems in your state.
:p Problem, what problem?

Interesting how he became a scumbucket overnight. Our previous and current President of the US used drugs. Yeah, I know, they both suck. But maybe it's time to get real about the situation and end the irrational war on personal freedom under the guise of battling the scourge of drug abuse. I am not an advocate of drug use, but what would we do if everyone who ever used was suddenly incarcerated. I can assure you it would be much harder to get a doctor's appointment.

Booze and pills and powders, you can choose your medicine . . . .

Problem, what problem?

Oh no, I'm not for the free and open use of illegal drugs At any rate, this guy seems to pretty dumb if he managed to get caught. *sniff*

I was hinting that the disconnect caused by the ad homs. Thomas Jefferson, who wrote the Declaration of Independence, owned slaves, after all.

At the same time, you can get your doctor to write any number of prescriptions for "sleep aids" that are far more addictive than nose candy.

My friend, you are out of your element here. I assure you.

Having lived all my life in SC, I feel I can agree with the

opinion above that for over a milliana government officials have often tried to be above the law.

As for S.C. do a google or what ever search on our Lt. govenor.

I think at least one of the 'founding fathers' Alexander Hamilton believed an elected official had the right to sell favors. Was just one of the benefits of the job.

Can you imagine being the LEO who has to go and arrest the treasurer of the state?

Ravenel/Bauer in '10! Has a good ring. :barf: Or was that David Beasley's world record time in the 100 meter sprint. :p

Applesanity - I thought your remark was funny. :)
