Slide scratches on new Steyr M9

Just purchased a Steyr M9 through mail-order. The gun was stated to be in new condition, but had been handled in the shop as a demo. There are a few small scratches on the slide that appear to be down to shiny metal underneath. Granted, these are very minute, but I am concerned about corrosion. On a tennifer process gun is there any clear coat type protection under the matte grey finish or are these scratches corrosion prone? They are small but I keep my guns in the best shape possible, and I don't want to have to obsess about keeping the slide oiled to stop rust. Unlike Glock, I don't think Steyr / GSI has any kind of refinish program so I am concerned enough to ask the more experienced. Any suggestions. Oh, I paid less than $400 for the gun with one mag.

I would contact GSI directly and ask...they are usualy very helpful about such things.

Also, I don't understand why so many people are selling Steyr M pistols with only 1 magazine. It's my understanding that they all came from the factory with 2.

I'm not sure how Steyr does it's tennifer process, but it is my understanding that on the Glocks the tennifer is actually imbedded into the metal and will provide protection even if all the finish is worn off the slide.

I've heard a lot about these guys doing a lot of good work lately..

I would give them a call if you are really concerned about the cosmetic appearance of your weapon as well as corrosion resistance. $50 to refinish a slide or $142 for an entire pistol is an extremely fair price in my book.

Personally, although I'm fairly meticulous about my guns, I wouldn't be too concerned about some scratches on the slide. I think rust is very unlikely as long as the gun receives basic maintenance overall. I might carefully apply a little gun touch-up solution or paint to mask the scratches. JMHO.

As far as the number of mags included with Steyr pistols, my local dealer got in a brand-new Steyr M9 last week. According to the box label, two mags were included. In fact, there was only one. The dealer was kind of disgusted--and I don't blame him. He figures the wholesaler lifted one of the mags to sell separately. Now he has to absorb the cost of ordering a second mag before he can sell the gun, he says.
