slide plate cover question

I am thinking of getting my husband a custom slide plate cover (or a few) for his birthday.
--Are they distracting when shooting?
--Should I get multiples with different pictures, or just one?
Any advice appreciated!

I believe she is referring to the side plate embellishments used on fancy SXS and O/U shotguns... but I could be way off on that. :p

Come on guys! You frequent one of the foremost firearms boards, and you don't know what a slide plate cover is??!!

Oh, and thanks for that link, Harry. I had no clue what a slide plate cover was.

To answer your question, hanndot, I think they would be distracting and a bit on the silly side in my opinion. For this particular birthday present, you might want to break with tradition and ask in advance if he would want one or more.

whodathunkit? Didn't even know that was option......

to answer the OP, IMO, it would be distracting, taking my eyes from the sights

If you're referring to the rear slide plate on the Glock pistols, that's a neat gift. Just avoid the one that has the Punisher logo. That's gotten really trite.

If you're talking about the ejection port cover for an AR-15, they can be a real pain to install.

The real "dust cover" is found covers the ejection port on military guns likeour WWII 'grease gun' SMG .The 1911 doesn't have a real dust cover on the slide .So I don't have any idea of what a 1911 "slide plate cover " is .

OK, now that I know that they are for a Glock, I'd say get him one that reflects his personality/interests, if available.

Something with his initals might be good.

Avoid skulls and anything that might be interpreted as promoting violence, because, if the gun ever becomes evidence (and in a defensive shooting situation, it will become evidence) the other side will try and use the embellishment to "prove" he was actively desiring to shoot someone. A wanna be vigilante, or something along those lines.

They will be looking for anything and everything to try and cloud the issue, and things that say "die scumbag" to a jury should be avoided.

It doesn't matter what we suggest, "hannadot" hasn't returned one single time from the second she posted her question. But on the positive side, we all know what a slide plate cover is now.

Well, she could have come back and read all the replies without signing in...or am I being naive and you actually know she hasn't been back?

Hmmm...maybe all our replies answered her question or maybe she gave up hope after reading our replies (I had certainly never heard of slide plate cover), still I agree it kiind of would have been polite to put in a 'thanks' or even a 'thanks anyway'.
