Slide back removal on a Kahr -- what's the trick?

I recently purchased a used Kahr K9 Elite.

Field stripping it is straight forward.

For cleaning purposes I want to fully disassemble the slide.

Like on a 1911 it appears that I need to remove the slide back.

Unlike on a 1911, I can't figure it out.

There appears to be some trick to it.

Anyone know how to remove the slide back?

Thanks.

How to remove the slide back?

You mean the firing pin retainer plate, to take the firing pin out?

I haven't had my Kahr K9 apart in awhile, but I seem to recall that you have to push the firing pin forward with a punch (you'll need to depress the firing pin block to allow the pin to go forward) and then just pull the firing pin retainer plate down.

Thanks for the reply.

It's the "slide back" on the Kahr parts list.

I tried what you suggested but to no avail.

Only one side of the slide back would more freely.

I could easily depress the striker spring.

But you apparently also need to depress the extractor spring.

How to do with only two hands?

Have you tried putting an empty case under the extractor? I don't have a Kahr, (yet) but thought that might work.

Here's how to do it:

Adjacent to the upper right side of the rear plate on the slide, is a crescent cut-out. Insert a teeny screwdriver thru the cut-out, and depress the rear extractor plunger. This will allow the rearplate to be slid down slightly, and clear a cut-out on the rearplate.

Now, slightly depress the striker spring guide(don't have to move it much), because it sits in a depression on the rearplate. While holding striker spring guide, the rearplate will slide right off. Now you can remove the guts.

Thank you.

That did the trick.

The key was getting something skinny enough to depress the extractor spring.

I'd been using my smallest punch, but that apparently wasn't skinny enough.

The tip of some tweezers did the trick.

It still isn't "easy" to remove the slide back; not compared to disassembling my glocks anyway.

I'm sure it'll get easier as I do it more.

Thanks again.
