quote:
Why SLAM! the NRA?

On April 20, 1999, two teenagers armed with semi-automatic weapons, shotguns, and pipe-bombs stormed Columbine High School and killed 12 students and a teacher and wounded twenty-four others before killing themselves. They were able to get their guns because of loopholes in our gun laws, loopholes that exist largely thanks to the National Rifle Association. Despite this tragedy and the mass shootings that followed at day care centers, offices and churches, the NRA’s bullying tactics and big money have prevented Congress from passing common-sense gun-control laws needed to keep guns out of the wrong hands.

The result? Since Columbine, more than 22,000 people have been killed with guns in America. We lose nearly 12 children a day to gun violence in this country. That’s a Columbine every day. Why doesn’t the NRA care?

Once known for its marksmanship, hunting and firearms training programs, the NRA has become an extremist organization that opposes all rational restrictions on firearms. For years they have opposed measures like the Brady Law, the Federal Assault Weapons Ban and even attempts to ban “cop-killer” bullets. What’s more, they have made it a priority to put more guns on our streets by pushing to make it easier for almost anyone, “even stalkers, domestic abusers and child molesters”, to carry handguns in public places.

We are SLAM!ing the NRA for:

- Perpetuating the myth that the Second Amendment guarantees a broad, individual right to possess firearms and that it precludes any reasonable gun laws;

- Calling federal law enforcement agents “jack-booted thugs” and constantly undermining the efforts of law enforcement agencies to make our communities safe.

- Helping to make our federal gun laws so weak that a child can legally buy an AK-47;

-Making sure that there are no consumer protection standards for firearms;

-Making it as easy for criminals and minors to by guns at gun shows as it is for them to buy milk at grocery stores;

-Opposing safe storage laws that hold adult owners criminally responsible if a child gains access to an unsecured gun;

- Promoting firearms as an essential part of American life.

It’s time the NRA stop putting its narrow special interests ahead of the safety of all Americans.

The overwhelming majority of Americans are saying, “Enough is enough.” Why won’t the NRA listen? Because today’s NRA stands for “No Rational Argument.”

Amazing, ain't it -- become a two-bit muso and suddenly you're an authority on society and how it should be run.

Cr*p!

...by pushing to make it easier for almost anyone, “even stalkers, domestic abusers and child molesters”, to carry handguns in public places...

I love it when some sensationalist a** hole throws a set of quotes around something and then does not referance it. Any non-critical reader (99%) would simply accept whatever was said. The "dumbing down" of America serves the media's interests once again....

F**k THEM!!!! :mad:
I'm sick and tired of those tree hugging commies blasting the NRA.
Let's get all the Philly TFL'ers to crash that little commie bash, and protest them for a change. Dust off those bullhorns, print signs, and go liberal hunting!!! :) :) :)

Yeah, I got a permit to carry,it's called the friggin Constitution.---Ted Nugent

"Glock 26: 17 rounds of concealed carry DEATH comming your way from out of nowhere!!! THAT'S FIREPOWER, BABY!!!"

quote:
- Perpetuating the myth that the Second Amendment guarantees a broad, individual right to possess firearms and that it precludes any reasonable gun laws;
Myth my a$$! The right to self-defense existed in common law long before the Bill of Rights, the 2nd Amendment just affirms it.

quote:
- Calling federal law enforcement agents “jack-booted thugs” and constantly undermining the efforts of law enforcement agencies to make our communities safe.
I'll admit I was not pleased with the "jackbooted thugs" letter; even if there's some truth in it, that's not the way to promote reasonable diaogue.

quote:
- Helping to make our federal gun laws so weak that a child can legally buy an AK-47;
Show me where a child can legally buy an AK-47. I have $100 that says you can't.

quote:
-Making sure that there are no consumer protection standards for firearms;
Government standards are only necessary when the industry does not have them. The firearms industry has been very good about this, because they know that sloppy design of a gun has drastic consequences. A modern gun in trained, competent hands is safe.

quote:
-Making it as easy for criminals and minors to buy guns at gun shows as it is for them to buy milk at grocery stores;
A gross exaggeration. The only ones at gun shows not required to do background checks are private non-FFL individuals. There may be some bad apples, but they can be policed. In Florida at least, no one can deliver a firearm to a minor without facing charges.

quote:
-Opposing safe storage laws that hold adult owners criminally responsible if a child gains access to an unsecured gun;
And yet such laws exist; our biggest worry is that the government will use them to justify invasive "inspections" of our homes. A large part of the debate was over whether it was better to enforce civil or criminal liability.

quote:
- Promoting firearms as an essential part of American life.
Which they have been for 224 years. Besides, take a walk in the Bronx at night and tell me whether they're essential.

Or Philly, where the "concert" is to be held.

They don't get it, and they won't until it's too late.

Let it go. Most of those things are made up off the top of their heads. "A child can buy an AK-47?" They don't believe that either, and if they do they're not worth it. Besides, with those bands, if we protest we'll be swelling their numbers considerably.

Oh, who am I kidding? Screw these idiots. Bring out the TRT!

I was made aware of this kind of shyte the other day from a friend (whom i thought was pro... considering she holds a Masssachusetts Class A :()

She emails me this site: 2020Vision as it is a 'pro-environment' group.

After reading the blatent Green Party platform espoused on the site, i wrote back to my friend a few lines pointing out the problems with SLAM!NRA and various other items.

Her reply, "Hunker down, USP, nobody's comming to take your guns."

Well i'm glad i have that one cleared up... I was really worried there for a minute.

"[Even if there would be] few tears shed if and when the Second Amendment is held to guarantee nothing more than the state National Guard, this would simply show that the Founders were right when they feared that some future generation might wish to abandon liberties that they considered essential, and so sought to protect those liberties in a Bill of Rights. We may tolerate the abridgement of property rights and the elimination of a right to bear arms; but we should not pretend that these are not reductions of rights." -- Justice Scalia 1998
