Slain Woman Took the Right Steps

The headline reads, "Slain Woman Took the Right Steps" http://www.pioneerplanet.com/news/mtc_docs/008293.htm
Sad story, but no mention of active self-defense as an option. This woman was a police department employee who got a restraining order, got it enforced, and took rides home from officers going off duty, but her husband still got into her home, argued with her, and killed her.
There are some statistics, and the case itself, that might help change the minds of some women who resist using a gun to defend themselves. Anoka

All the right steps????????????????????????????
She is dead isn't she so the steps where not right. She isn't allowed to carry in MN as permits are allmost impossibe to come by.She died because self defence is not PC.
Man stories like this really burn me up.And old Jessie V said he would get a state on demand CCW passed.More political talk as allway.Seems as it doesn't make any difference what party they belong to,all liars.

Bob--- Age and deceit will overcome youth and speed.
I'm old and deceitful.

Jessie (used to be) pro gun. Used to sound pretty libertarian too.

He now shows up in public with Al Gore WAY too much.

He's a bug. He's nothing.

Battler.

Good post Anoka, this one is definitely going in the file.

As I was reading this article, all I could think of was what planet are these people from?

"Despite gains in public education, more vigilant law enforcement, protection orders and unprecedented public attention to the ills of domestic violence, the system cannot always protect women."
Well ... DUH!

"-- if somebody is out to get you, they're going to get you. The order for protection . . . is still just a piece of paper. It can't stop a bullet or knife."
No s**t Sherlock!

"As many activists and officials are fond of repeating, orders for protection work only on those people who abide by them."
What a SURPRISE!

"When things like this happen, we tend to dismiss the effectiveness of these too easily."
IOW, you don't want to admit you might be wrong."

"There are no barriers with domestic violence,"
A few rounds of .45 HP can make a pretty impressive hurdle!

With the exception of my 75 year old mother, all the women in my immediate family are armed and capable of protecting themselves.
It's a pity that instead of someone giving this poor woman the means to defend herself, all they did was give her false assurances of safety. Now they're all standing around, scratching their heads and wondering what went wrong.
Oops! Too bad.

See, because she didn't use a weapon to defend herself, she didn't "stoop to the same level" as her assailant. She didn't "commit violence". She is therefore morally superior to her assailant.

Do you think if given the chance again, she'd get a gun faster than you can rip up a restraining order? I bet she'd rather be alive than "morally superior" to her attacker. Too bad that most sheeple don't see the light until the last frightful moment of their lives.

Another DUPe

Sorry to hear this. It seems to be an old story and the solutions are, as usual, quite simple. We just lack the will and moral authority to follow through.

A CCW isn't at issue since the victim was at home. Regarding "All the right steps," this didn't include self defense training, up to and including the use and procurement of a firearm. Well, our opponents at HCI may gleefully point to their success as "another life was saved" but unfortunately, it was the perpetrator's and not the victim's.

Amazing! All of those liberal, do-gooder, so called experts sit wringing their hands wondering where they went wrong. They are so blinded by ideology that they can only come to the conclusion that there was nothing that this poor woman could have done to change the final outcome, she did everything humanly possible in their eyes.

Hundreds of women could die at the hands of violent partners and these "experts" still would be unable to see the obvious, and only, protection available to someone in this situation.

How do you get people like this to see the light? Sadly, I don't think you ever can!

Spectre: I do plan to leave here ASAP, must say I like open carry states [not to mention shall issue] a whole lot better...people seem to be "more polite" ;)

Whats wrong with weather anyway? :D

Yeah, right. Dead right.

The only ones who care about the law are the law abiding. This is a Catch-22 that is beyond the comprehension of the whimps, i.e. the dweebs that require restraining orders have already proven that they don't care about the law because they broke the law by threatening/assaulting/abusing the victim in the first place. The only thing the restraining order is good for is documenting the fact that they have been warned. The way one deals with criminals is by snatching them up and FORCIBLY detaining and restraining them, and then dealing with them appropriately. Waving a legal document at a criminal is like trying to reason with a petulant 2 year old - it doesn't work (what a brainfart - it just occurred to me that the same people who think a RO works are the same ones who reason with their two year olds, who in turn grow up to be criminals - what an ironic payback! :) :) :) )M2
