My b-i-l Ken, known to some of you folks as Slabsides, passed away July 9th.

He helped me learn the shooting sport over 55 years ago and I am thankful for his guidance. He was an excellent pistol shot, winning several state championships in .22 LR handgun silhouette in the seventies.

Ken lived in Maine. He'd been having considerable pain from spinal arthritis, and had heart problems, but was able to walk with a cane. He passed away in the night, at 74.

A Shooter's Requiem

There's a cross wind o'er his shoulder
And a bit down the green
Trace rides the mirage
On the best of days he's seen
His Aim was True

Thanks to all who responded.

Ken was very knowledgeable in the firearms field and helped many people get started. He had a collection of good-shooting guns and was particularly fond of his early Colt Gold Cup, which he used in NRA Centerfire, plinking, and home protection.

His H.S. Trophy was one of the most accurate handguns I've shot. That's the one he used in IMHSA rimfire silhouette matches.

I'll miss our "gun talks".
